Pen kits....
« on: February 27, 2013, 12:31:19 PM »
After speaking with a friend yesterday and his interest in receiving a pen turned from a piece of olive wood from his farm I think its time to venture into the pen turning world.

As I have never turned a pen I really don't know where to start. Watched a few vids on YT but I think I am missing a few important items... Drill chuck for making the hole to start with!

Anyway, what would be the best pen kit to start off with?

Also, as I am going to need a few items from the UK (not a chance of finding kits here!) what exactly do I need? Is there a 'starter kit' available for purchase which would include everything or do I just need to get a 'kit list' together?

I don't turn pens so I can't comment on it's usefulness or quality, but I did notice this kit advertised in a magazine freebee catalogue yesterday.

I'm quite sure other forum members will be able point you at other kits available or suppliers though.

Thanks dr4g0nfly

Hmm quite a hefty investment! Was hoping to find a 'cheaper' entry into pen turning!

Axminster also do a pen mandrel but again not cheap... (Yes, Mr. Skint here!)

Other options? Anyone got a 2nd hand one for sale?  ;)

Try Turners Tool box. They sorted me out with all that I needed and their services was very good.
