Encased ring stand
« on: October 18, 2014, 07:59:20 AM »
Hi. I'm new to this forum and turning, and thought take the opportunity to get some comments on a present I've just finished. Is a 5" high encased ring stand. The word is Iroko, and the buttons and hat Corian. Comments please.

Hi Jabba, and welcome to the forum....always good to see new members.

That's quite a tricky little project for somebody who's new to woodturning and good to see you thinking about your own designs, rather than just copying what else is out there. It's also good to see other materials being incorporated into a turning, so well done for a good start.

Les

p.s. given that splendid top to the ring stand, I shall take a long time to stop thinking of you as 'Jabba the Ha't.  ;)
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Welcome to the Forum Jabba, And well done on such a delightful first post, well thought out, detailed and executed piece.

No reason in why it shouldn't be a well received present, admired and used for many years to come.

Cheers  David

As Les said, always good to see someone making something that has been 'personalised' and not just copied. Keep 'em coming.

Jabba, and a big hello from me as well.

I've seen many takes on ring-stands but I've never seen one quite so unique and well thought out. You say you're new to turning, I'll say you might be a turner to watch, you certainly seem to have a spark of creativity.

Looking forward to your future postings already,

Bryan
