I was turning a hollow form and wanted a wall thickness of under 1/8" and went through the side. Not wanting to throw the remaining half away I turned it into a footed vase and decided to use it to practice some more pyrography and this is the result. The wood is Laurel and it is 6 1/2"x4"dia.

Away for a week So not easy to view on a smartphone. Looks like a dragon.
How high was the original piece going to be if this is over 6 inches?
Nice recovery as well.

Hi Gwilym, from the grain and figure this would have been some piece, however as you've finished it now it is remarkable, if for a somewhat scary dragon.
Cheers David

Hi Gwilym,
Been a while since I've been on the forum.
Nice bit of pyrography and I think in this instance the foot works really well.
I think we'd make a good salvage team!!!!!!
Hope to post something soon, been on stop for a while,"awaiting new lathe!"
Regards
Rod
