Hi Woody....this is great! It never ceases to amaze me, just how a simple variation to accepted practice can have such a striking effect. This could be a great way of maximizing on a bowl blank that has one small area of highly figured grain near the rim, whilst the rest is fairly normal! thanks for sharing this with us.

Woody,

Apart from Yew, we don't tend to turn many softwoods, which is a shame as the grain in this cedar bowl shows. And I'm still scratching my head at the offset, Was it a piece of wood that was wedge shaped to begin with?

No it was a normal bowl blank about 3" thick turn the inside first to about 2 " then reverse it on a padded dolly and bring up the tail stock off centre  normaly about 3/4" and do the outside and foot I took this one to its limits off set 1" but it is a little bit to much

Cheers Woody, when you called it a nice challenge, it's more in our minds, to get round the simplicity of the piece that is the challenge....  :-[ ..

Well done.  David
