Where are you ?
« on: January 22, 2014, 06:19:11 PM »
Evening All,

Would it be possible when joining the Forum, members when completing their profile also include their location ?

I'm not suggesting a full address just an idea of where they are - a County would suffice.
Maybe, even existing members could amend their profile to include location ?
I may have seen a similar request previously - might have been BS ( Before Stroke and memory **** up !)
 ???

Surely, Bob, this is information that we are already free to post in out personal profiles, if we wish. Whilst I was content to post such information, but I don't think that it should be obligatory.

Hi Guys,  This has already been discussed in the past, somewhat heatedly in some views, but with any details it's optional.

It would however be very beneficial to everybody on the forum, as any member could be close to a fellow turner an not known.

It's all very well if you knew others via the local club, then how many such turners use here, but with the many new turners who do use the forum, we could All better connect .... Clubs as well, could indentify possible new member and like wise, who wonders on if a club is near, not all are computer literate and able to find their way round sites an links to find out.

So as asked, Please, could there be any harm to tell fellow turners of your location, could help you too... How many time's in a For Sale post do we see it asked ... "WHERE ARE U"..

Cheers  David

Must admit I don't have a problem personally and I find it useful sometimes to know what turners are in the locality. Not something I have thought about before as for me at least trying to earn a living it is advantageous to for people to know where I am LOL. I have it in my profile and to be honest don't know why it doesn't come up automatically under your name at the side as it does on other forums.

Perhaps some people just don't want to be found! That's their choice.

I've said before, if you're in or passing Weston-super-Mare, pop in for a visit.

Bob, date set, see PM to you.

I don't mind but SWMBO is likely to get distressed if more than 20 of you turn up, unless you bring your own mugs, she'll run out and not be able to serve everyone.
