Diamond bowl with sphere
« on: February 19, 2014, 03:15:48 PM »
This diamond bowl is 13 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 2 1/2" and turned from Sapele. It was textured and coated with given dark bronze and copper metallic coatings. C&C's welcome.

Very nice. Looks like beaten copper in the first pic. Well done. Malcolm.

A unusual and different form, You have really captured the beaten copper effect.

Gwilym, you never cease to amaze with your work, it goes beyond imagination, such detail, form and finish.

Well done.

I'm not normally a fan of painted wood but I have to say this is very very nice and the finish is special

I'm with Ed on painted wood, but it looks like a Mahogany or Sapile timber so probably the best thing you can do to it.

And such a fantastic idea, it was not until the last photo you realise that it is all one piece of wood, the ball is integral to the turning, not a separate part.

Stamp Newlyn on it and you'll be fighting off the prospective buyers!

Hi Gwilym
I like the sweeping curves of the wings and the carved edges, also the texturing and colouring, they all work well together.
When I grabbed the sphere last week I expected it to pick it up on it's own, surprised it was still attached to the bowl, nice idea.

Thanks all for your comments. As I stated with the last one, its an interesting and challenging shape to turn.
