Orange is the colour
« on: April 08, 2014, 08:33:03 PM »
This is one of my gesso texture / acrylic airbrush coloured bowls. The red/orange/yellow graduation is even brighter in real life! It was made as one of a number of items to be sold to raise funds for Myeloma UK because orange is their colour. If you would like to donate please visit this page. If you would like to see the other items take a look here. C&C and donations welcome! Excuse the link plugging but it's for a good cause!

Proof, if ever any of us needed it, that it can often be the simplest form that gives the most pleasing result.
Spot-on, Paul.

superb form, love it, sometimes these simple forms can be hard to get right. But you nailed this one well and truly.

Orange is truly the colour and keeping it simple there's no place for design opportunities :)

Paul,

The shape is spot on, just perfect in it's curve and the colour blending.

I've never used gesso, I think of it as a thick white paste (as always I'm prepared to be wrong) and I can see some of the texture it's created over your work but I can also see the grain of the Ash through it.

Is it water based? How does it affect the wood when applied and drying please.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

Yes the gesso is water based and it may raise the grain when applied but as the grain is buried under the gesso this isn't a problem.

Thicker coats can hide the grain more completely but it depends on what end result is wanted.

Paul I have come back to this one several times just to look at it again.
I like everything about it, the shape of the bowl is very nice, I assume, knowing you, the interior finish is very good too. The colour is very good but I am trying to work out if the colour is graded or if it is the shadow?
well done.

The colour is graduated and consists of red, orange and yellow.
