Textured shallow Yew bowl
« on: April 20, 2014, 09:38:26 PM »
Approx 8" x 1 1/2" Yew bowl. Finished to 600 (inside). Chestnut foodsafe applied to inside and the textured outside finished with 5 coats of danish oil.
Texturing was done using a v shaped blade in a very expensive power carver from Lidl! ;D

Yep. Any chance of a picture of the texturing? What I can see looks intriguing. I have one of the Lidl specials but hadn't realised you could get that sort of effect with it.

Ah!, :) perhaps I should have mentioned it was first textured using dremmel & dental burr which gave the random texture then "double textured" using the v groove cutter/blade. I'll get a picture of the underside posted, thanks for your interest.

Rod,

I'm with Pete and would like to see the texturing please. But from what I can see it looks like you've created a bark type effect to give an interesting visual and feel sensation.

'How we finish our work' is the thread I started, this is a perfect example of something other than the dead smooth and highly polished question I posed, thank you for posting.

Photos as promised for Pete & dr4g0nfly
Hope the texturing is clear. As you can see the bowl has been reverse chucked to remove the tenon and to leave a shallow foot for it to sit on.
Hope this helps and thanks again for your interest in this piece.

You have made a very good job of the texturing Roderick it has added another
dimension to a already well turned bowl.  a very nice piece
