Just like Christmas in our house!
« on: May 24, 2014, 09:54:54 PM »
"Can you make me some table numbers?", asked the nice lady at the hotel where they display my pots. Well, I could hardly say 'No', could I. So I quoted a price for 25 consecutively numbered little white cotton-reel-shapes, each a-top an oak cone, 8"tall. I set about making them in a way that Henry Ford would have been proud of, working from number 1 to number 25, completing just one small step at a time, but repeating it a further 24 times. that way, I got the production time down to a minimum.
So, I've spent the last few days repeatedly counting down to 25, just like the process of counting down to Christmas day when December 1st is upon us.
I've given each piece 2 coats of melamine and two buffed coats of microcrystaline wax.

Bryan, Bryan, Bryan! Statistically, I sell more spindles than bowls. If you count candlesticks individually, then add the individual tea-light stands, then add all the Christmas baubles, apples and pears, the answer is 'Yep....I turn more spindles' ;D

Very striking. What is the white ?

Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Thanks, Graham...It's mostly the palest pieces of sycamore that I had in stock, although a few of them are holly.
