Les I didn't think that you were saying that anything was wrong with the finish, just the cost of it, the knots and grain in the base of the pot look good finished so that why I took the photo.
David, I looked up the pen turners using CA and BLO sanded off the last pot and re-coated but there were still loads of fine lines or it looked like little cracks.
So this time I applied the CA while the pot was on the lathe not spinning and wiped it along the grain once the pot was covered I spun up the lathe and coated the CA in BLO, left this for about 5 minutes and then wiped away the BLO then left it for about an hour, then sanded with 600 grit and repeated the process 3 times the last coat of CA I burnished and it has come up much better.
I'm only really using it to stabilize the timber, but now I can get a high gloss finish with it I might use it if I think that I want a gloss finish.
