Ikebana vases
« on: August 16, 2014, 09:45:38 PM »
Apologies for the photos, done in a rush. They are (as usual with me) made from odd bits of wood and have glass inserts. I have tried to maintain an oriental feel though I will never attain the quality of work that they get. No need for critique LOL. I can see the faults, these are basically prototypes.

Pete,

I've got to fall on the side of the Walnut & Maple one, the asymmetry of it appeals to my aesthetics.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

I like them both. Symmetry is good and the walnut one makes me think of the man in the moon  :)

If you had asked for a critique I would have said that IMHO the flowers were to tall and take the eye away from the turning.
( If I had made it that would be a good thing but not with you :) )
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Like both of these Pete...Think you have kept a oriental feel to them.
They both have there own appeal , but the Walnut and Maple one seems to catch the eye
sort of Rich but Mellow if that makes sense.

Yep....like 'em both, but the asymmetrical one gets the vote in the end.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.
