My Daughter wanted an Egg Cup.
« on: November 03, 2014, 01:36:29 PM »
I made an Egg Cup today and once parted off I realised I had just enough to make a little lid for it.

I think the wood is Cherry I'm not 100% but that is what I was told.
It is finished to 400 grit and a few coats of Boiled Linseed Oil.

It could be cherry, the grain looks about right but the linseed oil has yellowed it so I cannot be sure.

Strange but it's the small things like eggcups that can sometimes be the hardest to make. Simple, yet functional but you still want it to be decorative and attractive to look at - that's a lot of work to fit into such a small bit of wood.

The proofs are - does it hold an egg and does it meet your daughters approval.

I like the cap you've turned to sit on it when on the shelf, smart idea.

Very nice Ryan.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Thanks guys, as discovered by my daughter if you turn the cap upside down it makes a complete egg shape. (I meant to do that really.)  ::)

She loves it and has crossed it off the list of things she wants me to make. Sadly we had egg for breakfast this morning so I'm yet to test if it holds an egg. Ooops
