I'm having difficulty picturing it in-the-round. In the first pic, the bleached disc of oak sits behind the column, to the right of centre...but then, in the second picture, the piece appears to have been turned around and the white disc now sits left of centre, but is still behind the column.
Is it, perhaps, that the column has a good thickness to it and the disc is set into the column, rather than planted onto one surface?

Me thinks .. Les, has worked it out .. the shade lines are deep the the view, so maybe flat work, lower disc makes up that it stands, so not thinking it's turned on three axis.. then size would give a clue !!!

'Our take' so what, where & when has it been done before ...  :( ..

As fore what it is .... Moons' ... Stars' ..  Hum .. . It stops conversation for sure ...  ;D ..

Cheers  David

Definitely get that bit, David.....the column cries out mysterious shapes silhouetted against the dark sky, with celestial bodies abounding.

Hi.... Its about 22" tall the depth of the plank would be about one and a quarter going down to one and three quarters
     at the bottom
Its meant to be a type of optical Illusion where the discs pass through the wood ...... Tony can`t  remember where he saw
something similar( he`s  getting old now :)
It has no name we thought we would let your imagination wonder for a while. Its what ever you perceive.
Sorry Les I can not put another photo on....  it no longer lives here

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

The trouble people in this country is they see woodturning as bowls and plates to eat off and if it doesn`t have a use they can`t see the point of it,when they get the idea that alot of woodturning now is pure art not just "Treen" then woodturning in this country will catch up with the rest of the world,or the majority of it,that said,I think its a beautiful piece of "Art" well done Tony and Di.
welcome to my woodturning world

Les said 'mysterious shapes',

David say's 'Moon's & Stars',

Di & Tony say it's got no name to let our imagination wander,

Okay so my mind went walkabout (and come back), I see it as the Monolith from (Arthur C Clarke’s book) 2001, with the moon behind it and the stars in it.

That’s my interpretation; I can see it happily displayed against a wall in someone’s home. Art, an attractive item but no application.

Something we often turn but not so large or different to the norm.

Thank You All For Taking The Time To View and For The Feed Back.
Your comments and interpretations are as always most welcome.
Tony see`s the obelisk floating amongst the planets. (2001 )
I see a dark thundery and mysterious sky and odd shaped planets
