More spalted wood ( Beech this time !)
« on: January 17, 2015, 07:14:03 PM »
Just a few examples of the glory of spalted wood  ( well I like it anyway !)  2 very different examples of the what can be found .  I particularly like spalted wood as it is neither soaking wet or dry / dusty to turn and cuts well with blunt tools  LOL!  The 2nd vessel with a flat top shows a strong deliniation between rotting and sound wood and was turned to highlight this , was not easy to hollow though !  Terry ...

I think the angle of the photo, foreshortens the effect of the vase. It looks like it is shorter/squatter than it really is making the ratio of the height to the width seem a little off, which I am quite sure it's not.

However, that is one beautiful piece of wood and you've made something special out of it.
