Shallow single wing.....
« on: March 20, 2015, 12:34:34 PM »
......if that's how to describe it!  Wasn't deep enough for a sensibly sized 'hard' sided hollow so tried a more fluid shallow shape instead.  Still having problems getting the bottom right....is it just me or is it really not easy??

Totally off the wall.

Have you curved the base right around, or does it have a foot/flat area.

Personally I'd like to think it is curved so that it finds it's own position to sit in, and rock on. I can see someone taking an Apple and it moving to a new angle, sort of kinetic fruit bowl.

(Guess you've worked out I like it by now)
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

I have to agree with Bryan. Really like that.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

It really is not easy, until you can do it, then it really is easy :) ....having said that, I see no problem with yours. It's a lovely organic shape and the flow of the grain around the wing is great
Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments.

Les, so I just need to wait till I can do it, then I'll be able to do it....is that right  ;)

Bryan, the base is curved all round tho slightly flatter around where it needs to sit to keep the balance.
