A bit of this and a bit of that.......
« on: March 20, 2015, 06:05:28 PM »
The main hollow form is a piece of what I was told is Norfolk pine but it hasn't got the colour I expected, it is 5" diameter. The collar is a scrap of wenge, the finial a combination of a bit of ebony and pewter (recycled of course) the three feet are turned from a bit of beech dowel I had in the scrap box and ebonised. C&C welcome as always.

I prefer it without the stopper/finial I'm afraid.

Norfolk Island Pine is not easy to come by, not even common as an ornamental tree here in the UK, nice to see it available and being used.

Isn't it good how opinions vary. I like all the bits the others dislike, but I don't like the feet, they just look out of place.

Awkward sod aint I

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I guess it's a 'conversation piece'.
One of your rare pieces that doesn't work for me, Pete. I find it too disjointed. Individual elements are fine, but to me they don't flow to form a 'whole'.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.
