Seminar - Who's going ?
« on: April 04, 2015, 09:01:03 AM »
Pretty sure I will be going ( not booked yet though ). Which of you delightful people will I be meeting there ?
Regards
Graham
I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

I am hoping to go too - this would be my first AWGB seminar. Not booked yet and still trying to decide timing and logistics. Malcolm.

Yep, I think I will be there too, just got to get my admin sorted. A very good line up of presenters this year (as always).

for any full time woodturners still hovering over a decision... remember it's tax deductible as a training and development activity!

You can even claim for "trade literature"...which for us is Woodturning Magazine! A good accountant is worth his weight in shavings. Not his fee. But certainly his weight in shavings.

I would like to go but for the demonstrations I would need to sit near the front AND use a pair of binoculars. Some people are uncomfortable about being watched that closely ( as they perceive it ) ...... so I am still undecided.

Graham don't worry about how you watch the demonstrators, they are paid to demonstrate to everyone attending and as an association we do not discriminate against anyone, they even let me in !! ;D ;D ;D

Graham you are more than welcome to come to the seminar, it is true that the demonstrators are paid and you shouldn't have any problems sitting at the front with binoculars, just like an oversized pair of spectacles  ;)  every disability is different, I use crutches you use binoculars, it's how we overcome the disability that matters (I'm as capable as anyone on my knees or in a chair) and I take my hat off to anyone who doesn't let a disability get in the way, we simply have to do things differently.
The last Axminster event in Nuneaton I went to there was actually 2 totally blind turners "listening " to the demonstrators sat down as close as they could , I must admit I was very impressed by this and got talking to them, his wife took me to their car to show me his turning ability and I was gob smacked how well it was turned (like an exhibit), it was 18" tall by 8" wide hollow form vase and even though he's blind he could easily turn by feel incredibly accurate , inspirational.
Hope to meet you at the seminar.
Kindest regards
