Sculpture finished
« on: April 25, 2015, 07:55:25 PM »
Evenin all  :) The slingshot is finished

The Oak sculpture shown previously is now finished. Yes the spines are thin but very flexible and can be pinched together till the points touch, but if you sat on it I am sure they would snap  :)

350 mm high, the sphere has a magnet inset into the base with the metal stem being inserted just below the wood in the carved base section so you can not see it but the sphere locks on remains in position.  The oak sphere and base have been scorched, wire brushed and sealed with acrylic sanding sealer as this keeps a matt finish which I prefer for these pieces.

C & C welcome

It is a lovely piece and one of those that makes you feel good when you see it.

Well worth the wait since first you revealed it. There's so much dynamism in it.

Very impressive.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

November 2012 ...  Page 13 .. The piece then was called Seascape.

Mark,

very fluid and organic looking, clever use of magnets as well.
