New vase

This is a fifteen inch vase turned from cherry and other woods. C&C welcome. Thanks.

I really, really, really like so much about this - the shape, the height, the combination of timbers, the subtle scorch lines which emphasise the changes in shape. There is, however, one small detail that doesn't quite work for me, and that's the foot....i feel it looks a little bit heavy, but that's a minor detail on such a pretty vase.

Thank for your comment. I agree about the foot. I should had left out the walnut ring at the bottom and I pondered about this a lot but I decided for more stability. Perhaps I should have made the walnut ring a little thinner? I can still return it. Yesterday at least it was turning very true.

This vase has classic lines, it sits absolutely right in my eye.

The bead at the thin point of the waist reflects the shapes of architectural vases from times gone by.

To expand on Les' comments about the scorch lines, even the slightly raised simi-bead between them at the neck and between the walnut foot and the scorch line above that show that you've thought about just that little more detail.

Not crazy about Picasso's vases.
