To colour or not to colour
« on: July 09, 2015, 11:16:05 AM »
The inspiration for this piece is from an onion it is about 5" tall and I think it is Ash but I am not sure.
When I set out to make this piece it was my intention to colour it but now I am not sure it looks nice as it is.
What do you think should I colour it and if you think I should how do you think it should be coloured.

It could work if it was a light stain that enhanced the graining but out and out colour wouldn't work for me personally. As you were thinking onion what about something like this as it already has that reddish tint?

Hi Pete

Thank you for commenting I am not trying to make it look like an onion I just made the shape using the onion as a starting point.

George,

I don't like the foot, but don't you dare stain that grain, there is enough colour and movement going on already.

I know lol, just asking about colouring and looking at the colour already made me think of the red onion as a reference point. You're the colouring epert not me so ignore me if it's a daft idea.......of course you will LOL.

George this is a beautiful piece of wood, the grain and colour (on my computer) is lovely, I don't think colour could enhance this at all.

It is a very nice bit of Ash and that is not all she is getting

Hi George,
There is nothing to dislike about this Vase The shape is very pleasing and the grain and colour of this wood is to die for (it was not another piece you nicked from Mark S Wood pile?). ;D
                                                               Happy Birthday Tracy
