WIP next stage
« on: July 23, 2015, 02:34:32 PM »
Been playing with the amphora and pewter. I changed the amphora, did another one is some battered apple and have now got the pewter flowing out of it. See what you think, better or not? C&C welcome as always. Dug out my photo tent so hopefully photos are a bit better as well LOL.

That is more realistic Pete.
See how being a mate of mine helps your woodturning LOL

I think you have cracked it this time Pete.

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Always open to advice and guidance from the experts Be daft not be really LOL.

Thanks Graham, needs a bit of tweaking but reasonably pleased so far. Thought I was going to lose it for a while, so many splits, cracks and holes but good old cling film did it's magic.

I don';t know Graham. Not totally happy with it yet, something missing but not sure what. Plus I am very nervous about taking my work somewhere with so many amazing turners. I want to take some pieces to the gallery and maybe something for the auction but we'll see.

It's looking good Pete

I hope that you change your mind and take it, as George said it's your style of work.

All the best

It needs a name...

Conucopia what the Horn of Plenty that fed the Gods (Greek), their drink was Ambrosia but I can't think how it was delivered, but you can see where I'm going.

I did wonder about polishing the pewter but there were two reasons why I chose not to. One I wanted it to look as natural as possible so as it flowed I left it, some comes out in a clean stream, some more ripled and I have left it that why (at the moment) The other was experience has taught me through polishing pewter inset into goblets, however careful you are (maybe it's just me)  that a dirty grey to black dust embeds in the surrounding wood and if I want to polish pewter I need to do it away from the wood which I can't do here as it is poured directly onto the piece.

At the moment I am undecided whether it should go on a base of some sort as a sculptural piece or just left as is. if I am happy with it on the day I will steel myself and take it with me. If I have time I want to do a couple of other things as well, different but we'll see. I've clearded all commissions and just rebuilding stock so I theoretically have the time.
