The truth is that this one is destined for the fire box because there is a bloody great crack in it and I put it up here to see what members would say about the form.

To be fair Ralf it is no good giving it if you cant take it .
I have never really done boxes so I thought I would make one or two and shortly after starting this one a crack appeared in it but I carried on to see if the form looked Ok and I am quite pleased with the shape and I stuck it up here to see what comments it got.
I suppose with hindsight I should have taken more care with the sanding but there we go.

I think that is why I'm going to enjoy getting to know everybody on this forum George. I want to improve my woodturning and if nobody is prepared to highlight faults, then nothing is learned.
I think there is an excellent balance of encouragement and criticism here, with members happy to pass on their expertise.

Regards.

I like the bowl but the lid appears a little aut of proportions. Its profile is a little thick with a non descript ogee and the pommel a little too big. I also would have avoided the fillet that breaks the nice flow of the bowl curve.
Just my two cetns.

George,

I've looked at this several times and still cannot put my finger on it.

The shape of the box is great, I like the knot & grain flame around it, but the lid has a heavy look to it and I cannot see why. Sevilla has summed up it's shape  well but not the heavyness.
