First Bowls
« on: September 28, 2015, 09:06:43 PM »

These are 2 bowls our Eldest Grandson made with help from Tony.... He did not want to make the normal type bowls so went
through some of our stuff and chose this shape. The wood he was given to play with was past  its sell by date and had although
not now wood worm. 2or 3 years ago he did a vase for a art Project at School but showed little interest since but seems to have
got the bug again. The Beech was the learning / teaching Bowl....... The Ash? was on His Own
As always comments welcome Tony d

First and foremost....darned good job, he's done really well...but where's the ash bowl? Did he sneak it away before you photographed it?
Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

If these are his first bowls, then he must be a natural wood turner. These are excellent. Hope he keeps the bug and continues. Wish him well please and well done to you to getting him going in turning. Malcolm.

These look to be wonderfully done. A testament to his talent, and awesome instruction.

Very nicely turned, and in difference to George and John, I actually do like the shape.

Thanks.. Les ... Malcolm... Tom....Ed... Wolfgang

I will pass on all your encouraging comments and best wishes they will be much appreciated... He has a few decisions ahead....
after 2 years at collage and 2 years as a ceramic engineer apprentice its  time  to decide which branch he now goes down

Thanks ....George .... John (BHT )..... He did choose this style being more modern in shape..... I thought it would be a good one
to teach him how to use a bowl gauge, and I chose spalted  wood , I thought it would be more challenging ...  sanding
and finishing. If he does continue to turn which I`m sure he will... no doubt he will develop his own style in time.
He likes Dragons and colour John. :o ;D ;D
  Thanks Tony d

It's always good to be able to pass your hand and craft skills on, either to an apprentice or family member. To know that the lessons you've learnt are finding a new audience.

Maybe a tad morbid as well, but it was asked in this forum once, what will you do with your tools when you're gone, to know you have someone to pass them to, who will use them and love them as you have is a good thing.

Tony, Di, good effort. Tell your Grandson, well done.
