Spalted Alder Vase
« on: December 14, 2015, 08:51:40 PM »
Well I've used even more CA on this one 22" tall x 10" at it's widest. Walls around 15mm. Had another go with the sandblaster but that does not really show in the pictures.

Happy to hear what you think.

All the best

Ed

Ed, that looks like it was a real soft bit of wood, but the effort certainly looks like it was worth it. For it's height it has a good shape, no straight areas, nice flowing curves from top to bottom.

Get's my vote, well done.

I like the deceptively simple look of this Ed, lets the wood do the shouting.

It's a lovely, flowing shape, Ed, which shows the grain off to its best advantage.

That is a very big vase ! well done .... I would prefer to see a smaller opening ( not tiny a la David Ellsworth )  A wild and quite advanced bit of spalting , not sure many , myself included would have used  such a piece of wood , but it just shows what can be done if you really want to ....... I am curious to know what tools you used for this and how long it took ?.. Terry ..

Thanks All

It was fun to do

Terry I used the Simon Hope Hollowing tool to start but once that was out of reach I use the Turn-Tech Exocet that got second hand with the VB it's the only tool I had long enough. I think that it took me best part of 4 hours to hollow.

All the best

Ed
