What's it
« on: January 17, 2016, 08:27:33 PM »
Someone posted a picture of a plastic one of these on my FB page, suggested I could turn one.

It also satisfies my need to make things from off-cuts and scraps.

4 axis later!

It's a 25mm hole in beech overall width about 80mm,

But what is it? (It's propped up on a couple of map pins, so ignore what's behind it).

C&C if you feel so inclined.

It's a clasp for a tunic or shoulder cloth.

Thank you very much Brian.  >:( This is really going to bug me as it is so familiar but I can't remember where I have seen it before. It reminds me of ropes for some reason but as it is a long time since I was at sea i cannot remember anything more than that. It may be for something totally different but it is very much like something that we used to use on the ship.

Pete - Nope, not ropes or the sea.

Oh and I'll apologise now. I'm away on business for the next 3 days so unless someone gets it tonight, there will have to be a wait to know the answer.

Sorry folks, I was away on business.

Yes, Richard you are correct, it fits on your thumb and is used to hold a book open.
