Candle Stand
« on: February 09, 2016, 10:07:16 PM »
This is a nice piece of spalted beech, all cut from one board. It stands about 32" (80cm) tall and has a Candle Cavern candle-spike dish set into the head.

The first picture is taken from a very high angle, so the foreshortening makes the base look much smaller than it really is.

Finish is microcrystaline over cellulose.

C&C always welcome...Les

That's one big candle stick Les

I think that the collars at the base and top might have looked better as beads in keeping with the centre. But with that being said it's a very nice looking piece.

Ed's right, the transitiom from top and base to the stem is a little unbalanced, beads would have made a difference. But that detracts so little from it due to it's dramatic and imposing stance.

I see this in Church (or would if it was in oak), was it made to order?

Bryan....coincidentally, it was made at the same time as a pair of oak alter candlesticks! I was looking for something tall to use in a window display, so just decided to make this.

I have a couple of lumps of old oak I was thinking of doing something similar with so if I do promias it wasn't copying you. I agree with keeping the beads the same but that said it is certainly one that should soon catch someones eye.
