What is it worth
« on: May 16, 2016, 08:23:29 AM »
What is a Record CL1 with stand and Chuck with jaws worth.
Including outboard bracket
I have one I am going to sell but have no idea what it is worth.

I noticed a couple of CL2s on ebay yesterday, both were offered at £250, with tools,  but neither lathe was attracting bids.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Can't really help there....I do know that Record made a series '36' of both the CL1 and the CL2, with the '36' referring to bed length, but I don't know if they had different centre heights. I did notice that Lathes.co.uk state that all 4 of the CL models were '...all very similar'.

Considering the difference between the CL3 and CL4 is the speed control, I'd say the same is probably true for the CL1 vs. CL2. From the looks of it, this looks like the 36" bed.
Obvious questions: have you checked the condition of the headstock bearings, banjo action, tailstock action? You don't say, so I presume they are OK.

You can get a brand new CL3 with stand for under £700. Throw in a chuck with one set of jaws, that's around 850. Considering the condition, I'd say you'll be lucky to get more than £400 for this machine.

There're a few of the old blue ones sold on eBay ===>   http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=record%20power%20cl1&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

Nothing reached £250 (the crossed out prices indicate an offer was accepted for less than the indicated price).  The only one sold for more included quite a few accessories......suggests that if you have a few extra bits you can chuck in to get someone started it might do better.

George,

I cannot be sure from the photo but the chuck looks like a Supernova 2. That would go for a minimum of £80 on eBay.

I have checked it is a supernova 2 the whole thing needs a good clean up
I don't think the lathe has much if any use there is not a mark on the rest.
I looked for a date on the motor but there wasn't one.
I think for the lathe stand and chuck £300  00 would be a very fair price

 Hi George,
I think £300 would be a fair price for this complete with chuck.
