Burr Oak Bowl
« on: May 15, 2016, 10:27:29 PM »
Burr Oak bowl it's not thin and it's not small 26" x 5 1/2"

Made on commission for one of my timber suppliers, he supplied the wood and the deal is if he likes it he pays me and if he don't I get to keep it, part of me is hoping he don't like it :)

C&C's welcome as always

All the best

Ed

If this guy knows anything about wood turning then my bet is you won't get to keep this piece.
I am not usually a fan of big chunky bowls. but this one gets my vote any day.

Looks like you're gonna lose this one, Ed, but what the heck, you'll be richer for the experience and richer in the pocket. I'm inclined to agree that the 'chunky' route was the only road to go down with this piece; a great big crusty lump of burr just doesn't suit the thin-and-crispy approach.

It would have been so wrong to lose all that wonderful figuring in the shavings. Big and chunky works for me. Great piece Ed.
Looking forward to seeing what you make of the core.
Cheers Rick

Nice bowl Ed. The only thing I am not sure about is the interruption to the curve on the back of the bowl. I think a single flowing curve would have been better and let the beautiful burr do the talking.

A great looking bowl Ed....... The shading dark to light of the wood sets it of a treat......ticks all our boxes
                    Kind Regards

Ed,  That is an amazing piece of burr. Thin would not have worked, it needed the thickness to carry it comfortably.

By the way, who's got it, you or your timber merchant?

Thanks for the comments All

Bryan the timber supplier had the timber, I wanted to buy it off him, but he wasn't selling, got to turn it anyway so that was good.

Well he's got the bowl now and he and his wife loved everything about it so that what was good :)

All the best
