Hi Ed....a lovely piece of wood put to good use with your usual good finish on it. Whilst I like the detail at the neck and top of the vase, I'm not too fond of the under-curve at the foot. I always feel that a vase should look stable, but the curve that we're seeing in your pictures does tend to make it look as though it's balanced precariously.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Morning Ed,
Lovely piece of work and an excellent oil and wax finish. It's great to see the ripple used so effectively through the full height of the piece; add to that the spalt lines and the wood really speaks for itself.
I'm undecided whether transitions such as those around the neck, rim and foot would look better sharply defined rather than the soft ones you've created but we'd never know without seeing it.

Great piece Ed, thanks for posting.
Cheers
Rick

Thanks for the comments Rick & Les

Les no need to worry the base is wide enough and the piece is very stable  :)

All the best

Ed

I've seen this piece in the flesh, since both Ed and I had a stall at the BBC Countryfile Live event last week, and let me tell you, it's a majestic beauty.
The event itself was a bit of a car crash. Loads of visitors, but nobody wanting to spend any money. Plenty of the traders left on Friday night or Saturday night.

Ed,

you've certainly moved into the architectural/ large turning/ statement pieces area of the woodturning world, and this is another of them.

Big, brash and the ripple really stands out. One to be proud of.
