...it might also help if we knew what quality you're looking for. For example, does this need to be of the best grade of maple, free from natural discolouration, end grain splits etc, or will a bit of character add to your requirements. Also, is it critical that it's maple....would sycamore suffice?

I'm in Coalville. Maple is for a decorative baseball bat, worried that sycamore might be a bit too soft.

if it's decorative how can hardness be a factor?

i can supply some sycamore  i think, i'll need to check first though.
