Pointed Pot
« on: October 11, 2016, 06:50:05 PM »
Pointless pot or a amphora made from Bog Oak with aluminum powder filling the splits, cracks and holes.

Mounted on a piece of Yew root.

The whole piece is quite large 540mm high x 440mm wide.

The pot is 420mm high x 150mm at it's widest.

C&C's welcome as always

Ed

Just spotted this on another forum....love it, Ed, and thinking about it, the form is as timeless as the timber itself.

Oy!!! That's my idea LOL. Seriously though nice one, like the way you have it on the root. Is it the photo or does some of the aluminium look grey? Bet you did it with resin?

Thanks Les & Pete

Yes some of the ali looks grey, that's why it's on here rather than being at the turning comp at Wizardry, did not think it was up to that standard of finish.

It had to be resin with the type of splits and cracks the Bog Oak had :)

All the best

Nice pot but I find the mount competing for prominence

Amphorae and rhyton vessels are basically the same shape, main difference is size. Amphorae tended to be for transporting liquids and rhyton were used more for drinking from. The shape of Eds is applicable to either but size wise would be more likely to be a rhyton. It is assumed that the design which goes way back was derived from the shape of a horn which seems to have been one of the original drinking vessel.

Well not being an historian it's a pointless pot  :) :) :)

I've learn't something new again from you so let's call it an Rhyta/Rhyton

Thanks for the comments

Love the use of the Yew Root Ed....  would like to see the piece laid  in the root,  rather than vertical on it.
