Both have a great form and some interesting grain but for me the darker one seems to bring the grain out more.

You've got a couple of winners there, Ed....smashing colours and the grain really pops.

Hi Ed

I love the colouring but would like to see the base tucked under a bit more.

Regards George

Thanks for the comments all.

Well spotted John there is indeed a small bleed on the lip, I'll need to fix that :)

George I'll give the next one a more tucked under base :)

All the best

Burr Horse  Chestnut was the first wood we used Ed when experimenting with stains..... and think its still the best,
with Burr Maple coming a close second...... The orange one stands out for us the way it picks up the flaring and figure , but
must admit prefer the shape of the  dark one.
   Kind Regards   Tony di

Ed,

I'm not sure about the darker form. Wood does darken over time and I think the colour you've used will sit on top of that darkness and make the wonderful figure in the wood very hard to see too quickly.

That said, what I can see now shows the figure very well.

Hi Bryan

Thank you for your comment, sadly I'm not the best with the camera and the purple is much brighter in day light, so the picture is not showing the piece in it's best light :)

All the best
