I think the range of answers to this question is probably as wide as the audience itself. However, I'd say that if a demonstrator has huge technical skill and experience, but a totally dull delivery, that will always be disappointing. In this aspect you will probably find the most experienced audience having the same expectation as the least experienced club members.
It would also explain why Nick Agar is such a popular guy, as he combines both skill and entertainment to a high degree.
Personally I am always looking for a new tidbits of technique, tooling or decoration advice, but even if none of that was there, and I just had a good laugh, I'd still be pleased.
