Lime ! H/F
« on: January 20, 2017, 07:07:26 PM »
I know we don't turn much lime as turners but, although a very soft wood it is ideal for adding a splash of colour to Jazz it up.  This wee one is coloured with J/S acrylics and has a beech finial(ebonised). 9 x 4.25 inches approx.

Not to everyone's taste I know but C & C's welcome.

I'll second that, and I'll add that it's a really good use of lime.....Ihate the stuff, but this takes some beating.

I never got on with lime, too soft a wood I always think, having said that I know someone who turned Lime Burr and said it was hard as hell, so maybe I'm missing something here.

I can see the appeal of the piece, it's very modern looking, but I am not convinced it needed the finial. If I cover it with my hand the colour effect on the vase stands on it's own very well.

Hi Brian,  thanks for the reply.  Yes lime is not the greatest of timbers and definitely not your usual turning stock but it does take colour well. It is a very soft wood and, yes, the burrs can be rock hard but it comes up to a great finish if you're gentle.
I see what you are on about with the finial, I'm just into doing them at the minute, lol.

Gary,

from your recent posts I think we've got that.

Beautiful Gary, Lime is not the best to look at but this makes it a stunning item.

cheers Steve , yes a very boring wood normally which makes it ideal for adding colour.  Glad you like it.
