ha ha, I managed to find the add attachments button, no more messing around with ultra slow photobucket.

This was the piece previously shown HillClimb that you could not see

almost there with the main texturing, now it is a case of refining/finishing with a diamond burr.

Mark,

as ever I tip my hat to the patience you have in producing these pieces, the post turning work must take a long time.

Thanks Bryan, I hope you are well. Yes the post work is very time consuming, this one is a solid weeks work just for the texturing, but I love pushing myself, the techniques I use and ideas so is no chore. After all we have to have something to do with our time to keep us out of mischief ;D

Love this work, thinking of using it on some of the goblets when (if) I get good enough. Makes such a difference to the work.

As with any type of process it is not about if you can do it, it is about just keeping going until you can. This is nothing more than fine carving using rotary tools and burrs, it is more about the design concepts and putting it all together.

This is not aimed at you in any way, but I find that often people are more interested in the techniques for how to physically produce the work rather than learning about creativity or the design process itself.

Once we understand how to create and the process of design we are off. This is I feel one of the big issues woodturning has as a craft, its often all technique.

great work Mark, out of curiosity what wall thickness do you finish on the form to accommodate the carving?
cheers

Thank you. It all depends very much on what type of carving you decide to do so a little forward planning on the initial roughing stage is needed. For these forms at least 6-8mm or you end up cutting through the wall.
