Oak burr Whatchamacallit
« on: March 07, 2017, 03:14:55 PM »
This is just under 400mm max diameter and left fairly thick or it would just be bits all over the workshop. Call .kit whatever you like, natural edged platter, wall hanging, decorative thingummybob LOL. Finished with well buffed pure carnauba wax. C&C welcome

Cracking piece, Pete, and the colour intrigues me. Even though I'd read the title, I was thinking of it being made from the root-ball of a big laburnum. An unusual colour for oak.

It's definmitely oak, very old piece that has been lying around for years so may have natural discolourations.  The colours in the photo are pretty close, perhaps a little darker on real life.
I dislike marmite intensely Bernuk 1 but at the moment I am quite pleased with this if only because I got it off the lathe in one piece LOL.

I would be too-I hope you realised I mean't that people would either love it or hate it (just like Marmite)

Yes Bernuk 1 don't worry. You get a lot worse than that on here anyway LOL.

I'd call it beautiful and if you still have 8 fingers and 2 thumbs, also a success.

Well turned.
