Back in workshop
« on: May 28, 2017, 09:35:32 PM »
Been  out of the workshop for a couple of months and now been able to get back and do some turning the first was an easy job of turning some small spindles to make the bull bars on this truck as well as all the other things like exhaust stacks, air filter supports, fifth wheel, tank at the rear of the cab, axles, as well as having to turn the wheels narrower.

And the second is this bowl from London plane which I have been meaning to turn. It measures 8 3/4" X 1 3/4" finished using a mop system

Some little boy, or maybe not so little, will be pleased with that.

I admire people who work on these long-term projects....I just do not have sufficient patience to carry out such a task. Hats off to you!

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Thank you.

Most of the turning is 1/4" spindles for the bull bars and exhaust tops and air filter thin sections. The bull bars took nearly 5 days to make and are made from laburnum. I think there are 9 or 10 different woods in this build as I did not want to use colour in any way.

So this has two things I enjoy toy/model making in wood and woodturning (even if t is a smallish amount).

A Great Truck .... with a really good blend of woods that you have chosen for each part... well thought out,

and  the plane bowl is showing some very striking grain.

  Kind Regards Tony di
