Just me.
« on: June 02, 2017, 10:54:39 AM »
A tubular vase in a lovely piece of cherry with textured and ebonised oak bands. It stands 14" tall and is fully hollowed out. C&C welcome as always. For once I am reasonably pleased with the result LOL.

I like this one, Pete....not a shape that we see very often, but very pleasing line to it. Ddi you do some of the hollowing before building up the cherry and oak bands, or was it all hollowed through the top?

Thanks Les. I hollowed the base part out, jam chucked the oak in and turned to size then removed and textiured and ebonised, Glued in place then hollowed through and repeated up the neck. Gluing up couldn't be done easily before the texturing etc and hollowing out down through that long neck would have been extremely difficult....for me at least.

Hey, Pete. You are now getting into segmented turning -  five pieces and two woods. Nice form and design. Well done. Malcolm.

I prefer to think of it as using bits and pieces Malcolm LOL. Seriously I am happy to do this sort of thing, do it with a number of other pieces as well, all that super accurate measuring needed for proper segmented turnjng is beyond my patience level though.

Nice form Pete

Thank you George, love it i the porcelain, wasn't sure if it would translate to wood but I am actually happy with this one for a change.

An interesting concept. We've all seen ceramic vases with different parts decorated/textured differently. I can see some legs in this as a way forward for us wood turners.

Thank you Bryan & Ed.  Got an idea about this along with something another turner did. If it works I'll post.

Nice classical shape Pete, can see why you did it in stages, would have been very awkward to hollow it in one piece, can see it being a quick seller, cheers,

Eric.
