Simple bowls...
« on: June 21, 2017, 09:46:12 AM »
I like simplicity.  It's been a big theme of my creative life for a very long time as a photographer and is now manifesting more and more in my turning.  These are few little eating bowls in turkey oak (Quercus cerris), trimmings from a tree on our drive.  They are finished off the tool with just a light sanding to denib after oiling ,leaving a tactile, woody, feel.  Walnut oil, about 4 coats and then a hardwax oil to seal the inside.

Nothing wrong with simple, lets the wood do all the talking in this case. Lovely set.

You have done really well there , stopping them cracking and capturing the orientation of the wood.
The heart wood and spalting is very eye catching ... nicely done Chris

Chris,

Simple is only half the story, dramatic is the other half. The grain in the oak is wonderful to behold.

I love the simple form of these and find people prefer them to decorated pieces.

Some great features in the wood which you have not distracted from by keeping the shape simple.
