turning this end grain oak bowl at a size of 8x5 and finished with grit and sheen. the wall thickness is even all the way down to the bottom of about 5mm. all comments welcome.

It looks like Holm Oak is it.

not sure what you mean George I got the log from a family friend a few weeks ago and turned it green.

I think you will find it is Holm oak quercus ilex evergreen Oak .
It is a lovely wood but prone to splitting

I'm with George on it being one of the evergreen oaks, the colour and medullary rays give it away but which I'd not like to guess.

Stunning shape although the oil finish looks a little heavy.

Thank you for your comments. The finish is a Hampshire sheen high glow finish. It is not an oil.
