Cherry Burr
« on: June 15, 2017, 04:36:11 PM »

Had this Burr for sometime so decided to do something with it. Managed to get 2 bowl saves from it ( this stuff was hard ),
Thought we would do aged imitation metal rings to see how it looked.
  The large Bowl is 4 1/2" x 11.... Medium 3" x 9"... small 2" x 7" and finished in Danish Oil.
  Comments as always most welcome.
  Kind Regards Tony Di

Lucky to get three as Cherry is a bugger for splitting.

Three great bowls love the ring effect on them just adds enough interest without going over the top. If there was a thumbs up smilly I would give you some ;D

Brilliant job on the fake iron rings....if you hadn't said that they were fake, I might well have believed that they were.

Thank You very much... Derek and Les
It was very hair raising getting the bowl saves , used the straight blade .... chickened out of using the curved blade.
Have added another pic.... close up of one of the rings.
 Kind Regards Tony Di

That close up is almost more convincing than the distance shots. Very nice work.

Tony, these are really fantastic to look at, the effect of the bands is very realistic. If there were some scored vertical lines I would have believed they were really coopered.

Appreciated Ed .. And Bryan.. Thank You

Bryan not quit sure what you mean about the vertical  scored lines ...... In our thoughts we were after a aged
metal/ copper bronze sort of look.

Tony, Di,

Coopered like a barrel. The if the metal rings go around horizontally, the wooden staves are jointed vertically.

So some scored lines would have created the effect of staves.

But that was just a thought from the effect you've created in these pieces.
