Drilling an 20" long hole and having it come out the other end, still on centre. :D I did that twice today!

Yeah, I'm with George on this one. For a commission I made 2 large(ish) gas torch holders, 500mm long, drilled through from both ends, and even though I made sure the drills started out dead centre, they still didn't line up nicely in the middle (about 2mm offset). And the wood was dead straight grain poplar.

Did it twice Paul.

But you don't say how many attempts you made overall!

What diameter bit was it, or a Gun drill?

Two attempts so 100% success rate ;) 24mm hole in each spindle drilled with a twist drill.

that indicates a very well sharpened drill bit that has its center in the center not off to one side which is why they don't end up straight.

augers are usually the ones needed to get a hole that straight but that's very well done with a twist drill.
