Something different - as a
« on: July 15, 2017, 08:34:58 PM »
A lady I talk to while walking the dog lost her husband (Police Sargent) while he was on duty some years ago. She was allowed to keep his truncheon as a memory, but not his helmet of shoulder badges (not sure I fully understand that),

Anyway it had been slightly chewed by her dog when she was a puppy and asked if I could repair it and possibly make it suitable to give to her daughter as a keepsake memory of her father.

The repair was easy, a little sanding and turning the knob at the base to remove teeth marks and remaking the leather strap. Staining it back from Beech to the dark colour it was and it was done. But having seen those antique shows where presentation truncheons have names, dates, badges I decided to try and replicate that as well. Done in a modern method (I'm not that good with a paintbrush).

I've blanked out the PS Number and his name so please excuse the poor colour in those areas, but this is the finished article.

C & C if you wish and thanks for looking.

Man of many talents Bryan. Looks good to me. Is this the original truncheon or a replikca of the ladies?

Pete,

it is the original truncheon, repaired and brought back to as near original as possible.

Thank you George, when I heard the story of how her husband lost his life, I was honoured to be able to help her out.

Thank you all,

I delivered it this evening and she was suitable choked up when she saw it and very pleased to have it back in good condition. That made it worthwhile to do the work for her, she's a grand lady to talk to as well.

Just realised, I never finished giving this thread a proper title, sort of got halfway and changed my mine, then never noticed when I hit post.
