All about the Bark
« on: August 26, 2017, 10:27:08 AM »
Oak burl winged bowl 14"x10"x3" For me the bark was a main feature and some was loose before I started turning,so I treated
it with thin ca.As I turned more became loose,so I was checking and ca ing on a regular basis.
I power sanded and used brush applied Tru oil as a finish to avoid endangering my digits  ;D

Hi Mike
Nice piece of burr oak, you done well to keep the bark in place.
I'm a bit unsure about the base as it looks a bit narrow and could make the piece unstable, but otherwise I like it.

Mike,

a stunning colour in that burr, the oil has done it proud.

Some people like the bark on, some like the bark off, I'm happy either way as long as it's done well, and although I think the lower bowl shape could be a little better, I did not see the original burr you had to work with, but overall I think you've done a grand job and well done for keeping all your fingers.
