Buffing
« on: January 18, 2018, 01:07:12 PM »
I've been using the chestnut system for a while now and really like it.  However, I don't like the price of the (Chestnut branded) buffing compounds.  Anyone else here use the system (or similar) and have favourite alternative compounds?

I buy canauba flakes and melt them into ingots myself. Don't like the branded ones as they usually contain beeswax and so show watermarks and tend to mark with fingerprints as well

Chris I go to my local tool shop who supply cheap buffing kits. With them come various buffing compounds, they work a dream. Also go to your local motorbike supplies shop, in mine I purchase different grades of polishing compounds, red, blue , white , buff and grey all in different grits again worth looking at. On some of my segmented work I do not apply any finish but just buff the wood and apply a hard polish (you have to put a sealer on first of course). Hope this helps.

Haha!  Funnily enough I just spent a very pleasant half hour on there.  Very informative as well as good prices.  A package is on the way  ;D

Hi
I have bought stuff of the polishing shop and they are very easy to deal with very up front.
They sell full size canning  bars not the like the small bars off chesnut.🎎
