I don't normally work pieces of this timber more than 6" (15cm) deep because my stock is well weathered and has lots of cracks in it, but this started off as a 12" (30cm) end-of-baulk, so I decided to make a single vase rather than two small pots.
The finished size is 11" x 5.5" (27.5 x 14cm) with 2.25" (6cm) opening and sitting on a 1.5" (3.5cm) foot. Wall thickness is 0.125" (3mm) at the opening although it had to thicken slightly as it gets deeper, otherwise I'd have lost the whole vase because of a couple of troublesome cracks. I left the bottom 1" (2.5cm) solid to give good bottom-weight to it, as the foot was quite small.
Hollowed with a Simon Hope Easy Arm rig and a Hope 6mm round solid carbide cutter. Finished with microcrystaline.
C&C Always welcome....Les
