pheonix out of the flams
« on: June 03, 2018, 11:17:22 PM »
named Phoenix out of the flames. it is 6"high and 4"a cross and is made from yew it is a slant on the one by Nick arnull. it was turned and hollowed then cut using a Axminster hanging cutting attachment. i have scorched the edges to look as if it had been in the fire and also left slightly scarred to give character. i used the intrinsic colours to finish of with Danish oil . all comments welcome.

And the slightly rough edges to the cut-aways only add to the impression of dancing flame.

I'll lay Odds that the dancing candlelight looks great in a darkened room.

Your a brave man trying to colour yew Dennis not to mention cutting into it in the way that you have. I must say well done for having a go at something different. Les

I like the design and how you have cut it Dennis the only thing that sticks out like a sore thumb is in the last photo where you over scorched on the left it spoils a very nice piece
