Hollow form
« on: February 26, 2019, 05:37:15 PM »
Not done a hollow form for quite a while so thought about time I did another. Made from field maple for the main body, American black walnut for the top and beech for the finial. Was going to colour the finial but liked it the way it looked contrasting against the lid.
The bottom has a little ripple going on.

Size is 7 1/4" dia and 6 3/4" tall

C & C welcome

I like the proportions. I take it the finial is carved rather than turned?

Thank you BHT and Mike.

Yes it is, and there is a gap between the two prongs as they twist around. I want to experiment with other shaped finials as most forms that have them seem to go with the traditional turned type.

Derek,

I think the proportions of this are just right. The very small lid works, especially as its such a contrasting colour. And I like the finial as well, I read you cut it by hand, great work on that.

Thank you. I sat one evening playing with finial designs and this one just shouted out for a hollow form. I know most would make the piece first then the finial to match but this is something I can do when not in the shed. I now have a bag of finials
