Camphor Laurel Fruit Platter
« on: March 14, 2019, 08:49:45 PM »
Nothing special, just that Camphor Laurel Fruit Platter, I posted otherwise about the smell of the wood. Posted mainly to show off the grain of the timber.

It's 14" x 2" (35.5cm x 5cm), finished with a couple of coats of oil and then buffed to a matt sheen with microcrystaline wax.

One thing about it, the wood was very soft and easy to work but still takes a good finish off the tool.

C& C as you will and thanks for looking.

I like the  wide, softly rolled rim and then the distinct bead to mark the bowl. One thought, though, if the fruit is lying in contact with the wood for a few days, will it absorb a smell/taste from the ?

Thank you Pete.

Les,

The bead creates a shadow line at the top of the bowl section as part of the design feature.

I don't know the answer to your question but...
... I finished it over a week ago, as I said 2 coats of oil and a wax on top of that, but I gave it the 'sniff test' a few minutes ago, and I can still detect a gentle taint of camphor.

A very nice bowl Bryan I like the bead as it defines the bowl from the rim otherwise it would just blend into each other.
