AWGB Approved Tutor

I have just been having a look at the AWGB Approved Tutor course, I have only taught a few times, but would like to do it better, and to a proper standard.
Have you done the course / assessment?
Did it improve your ability to share our passion for spinning wood fast then sticking sharp pieces of metal into it?

Having done the Tutor assessment I would recommend as it improved my own skills in teaching, demonstrating and turning. The Lets Teach Turning E-Learning available from AWGB website for free is a brilliant and gives you what is needed . The use of a lesson plan enables you to get the details right when teaching.
It was with some trepidation when the day came to have the assessment as it was at least 60 years since I had an exam but with the help of looking at the Lets Teach Turning at least 3 times I can now display my red badge with confidence . A big thank you to Dave Atkinson and Peter Barwick for producing a the teaching tool

Thanks michaelb, I have run through the course introduction, and scored 100% on the safety test. Think I should go for the badge though like you I am a long way since exams, though I did do some in woodturning 10 years ago, so it shouldn't be too daunting.

I did the assessment and am now one of the assessors. I think doing the assessment made me look at how I teach others and hopefully improved the student's experience.
The aim of the programme is to create a minimum standard for teaching the basics and to promote safety and teaching of safe techniques.
The self paced course provides some basic tools to aid with lesson planning and delivery and that also forms part of the assessment.
The assessment takes the form of a 45 minute lesson where the tutor produces a lesson plan which they deliver to a "student" and there is a short practical assessment of basic turning techniques. There is a limit to how much can be covered in such a short assessment but
